Metro vs. Retro?

Ladies, there’s a new term in town. Ever heard of a retrosexual? I hadn’t until today. Apparently, the moniker categorizes manly men who exhibit poor hygiene, carry a little extra weight around the middle, but charm us with their sense of humor. According to reports, good examples of a retrosexual are Jack Black and Vince Vaughn. What!?! This term thing has become such a trend and it is a little silly don’t you think? It’s funny to me that society is always trying to classify men somehow, but I’ll admit I do it to.
First there is the metrosexual. Now, it is my opinion that there are several levels of metrosexuality. My least favorite is the tan, muscular metro who often wears long-sleeve stripped button up collar shirts, untucked mind you, slicks his hair back with product, and wears cologne like it is deodorant. I can’t tell you what a turn off this look is for me. I don’t like being in the company of a man who spends more time prettying up his face than I do. Period. These guys can be found all over Seattle, but a sure fire place to spot them is in Belltown. In fact, the Frontier Room is a perfect meeting place. As I said, there are different levels of metrosexuality. Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp fulfill a different level that’s hard to meet. They are simply hot, cultured and sexy. Who cares that they are metro?! Not me!
This brings me to retrosexuals. By definition, these men are sloppy, but make us laugh and drive us crazy at the same time. I have been attracted to the retrosexual guy. Humor, charm and manly good looks completely trigger something in me, something I don’t feel with a polished, serious, rock-hard body type. I find that being a little unsavvy is endearing. However, despite the humor and the lovable charm, I still find myself wanting a good mix of metro and retro in a man. What would you call that?
